Maths
At Gladstone Park we are committed to ensuring that every child has the mathematical knowledge and understanding needed to enable them to make excellent progress and leave us with secure mathematical life skills.
Our daily maths lessons across the school are based on concrete, pictorial and abstract approach. This means pupils learn new concepts initially using concrete examples, such as counters, then progress to drawing pictorial representations before finally using more abstract symbols, such as the equals sign.
In our school, mathematics is delivered using mastery approaches, which enable children to develop a secure understanding of key concepts in an engaging way. The whole class works through the programme of study at the same pace with ample time on each topic before moving on. Ideas are revisited at higher levels as the curriculum spirals through the year groups.
As a school we follow the White Rose Maths Programme.
